Buitenmannen
Buitenmannen (or Buitenleraars), the name given in the Netherlands to the Mennonite elders and ministers, who were called in from another congregation, for example, to settle a difference and reconcile the parties concerned. In connection with the schism between the Flemish and Frisians in the congregation at Franeker in 1567, the buitenmannen mediated in vain. They also acted in connection with the Lammerenkrijg (1660-1664).
