Balling, Pieter (17th century)

Pieter Balling, a member of the Flemish Mennonite congregation of Amsterdam and an adherent of Galenus Abrahamsz. He published Het Licht op den Kandelaar (Amsterdam, 1662), Verdediging van de Regering der Doopsgezinde Gemeente ... (Amsterdam, 1663), and Nadere Verdediging van de Regering der Doopsgezinde Gemeente (Amsterdam, 1664), in which he defended Galenus and attacked his opponents. Balling was also a good friend of the Jewish philosopher Baruch de Spinoza.
