Luirt Luirts, a preacher (already serving in 1645) and elder of the Groningen Old Flemish Mennonites, was a farmer near Westeremden in the Dutch province of Groningen. From 1645 until 1663 he repeatedly travelled about to visit the Groningen Old Flemish congregations in the Netherlands and North Germany. He was present at the delegates' meeting at Loppersum in 1659, where a number of restrictions were made concerning plain clothing and furnishings for the members of the Groningen Old Flemish group. Luirt Luirts died on 6 Octpber 1674. He was a member of the Huizinga family, but did not yet bear this family name.
