Herman Bakels , born 25 July 1871, died 22 July 1952, served as pastor in Warns, 1895-1901, Enkhuizen, 1901-1907, and finally in St. Anna-Parochie, 1908-1909, and 1911-1916. Of his various writings those of greatest interest to us are Het volk van Menno (Leiden, 1918), and Beknopt Bijbelsch Woordenboek (first ed. Amsterdam, 1917). His modern translation of the New Testament (Amsterdam, 1908) went through many editions.
