Fannie Hershey Lapp, b. 9 December 1882,  was the daughter of Amos H. and Lavina Hershey of Manheim, Pennsylvania, where she grew up and graduated from high school (1898). She felt led to prepare for Christian service and received a certificate from Bethany Bible School, Chicago, IL, in 1911, and a BSL degree in 1930 She also trained to become a practical nurse.

Before coming to India in 1913 under the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities (Mennonite Church), she served as a teacher in a winter Bible school at Canton, Ohio (urban churches). While on her first furlough, on 14 April, 1920, she married George J. Lapp, a widowed fellow missionary. Together she and George developed the work at the Ghatula evangelistic station and other stations, where Fannie distinguished herself as an able Bible teacher and worker with the Bible women (lay evangelists). She was a constant support to her husband in his pastoral and conference responsibilities.

The Lapps retired in 1945 to Goshen, IN, where she edited the Daily Prayer Calendar and related mission education materials. George Lapp died in 1951. Fannie died 14 October 1963 in Arlington, MA, but is buried in the Elkhart Prairie cemetery, Goshen, IN.
