The Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church as a conference owned a printing establishment from 1879 on, previously owned by the United Mennonite Conference. The first office and shop were at Goshen, Indiana. It published the English and German editions of the Gospel Banner, and was administered by a managing committee. The 1879 conference elected a publishing committee of six, three each from Ontario and Indiana. In 1879 a bookstore was added, which operated under the firm name of United Evangelical Mennonite Publication Society. In 1885 the name was changed to Mennonite Brethren in Christ Publication Society to correspond with the change in conference name, and the conference printing plant was moved to Kitchener (then Berlin), Ontario. Since the name of the Publication Society apparently never appeared on the masthead of the conference organ, the Gospel Banner, as publisher it must not have carried any responsibility for the paper as publisher, although the conference raised funds to support the rather precarious enterprise. Private persons or Gospel printing companies were contracted by the conference as publishers; H. S. Hallman of Kitchener filled this role for most of the twenty years 1888-1908. The statements regarding the publisher of the Gospel Banner in H. S. Bender's Two Centuries of American Mennonite Literature (1929, pp. 128 f.) are erroneous.

The name of the Publication Society appeared as publisher on the title pages of the conference disciplines published in 1880 (Goshen), in 1888 (Berlin), and in 1897 (Berlin), and also of the conference hymnal (A Choice Collection, Goshen) in 1881.
