Sybrandi, a Dutch Mennonite family. (1) Sybren (Sybrand) Sybrandi, born 1772 atLeeuwarden, died 17 June 1854, at Haarlem, was educated for the ministry at the Amsterdam Mennonite seminary1801-1805 and served the congregation of Nijmegen 1805-1807 and Haarlem 1807-1849, in which year he retired. In 1818-1845 he was a trustee (1827-1828 and 1839-1840 moderator) of the Algemeene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit(ADS) and during the same period curator of its seminary.

His son (2) Klaas Sybrandi, born 18 November 1807, at Haarlem, died there 5 September 1872, was also trained at the Amsterdam seminary and then served as pastor at Nijmegen 1830-1834, Groningen 1834-1838, and Haarlem 1838-1871; then he retired because of illness. He succeeded his father as a delegate in the ADS and curator of the seminary 1845-1872, serving as ADS president 1849-1850 and 1857-1858. Pastor Klaas Sybrandi was a man of great learning. In 1829 he obtained his Ph.D. degree at the University of Leiden with a dissertation on Plato's Gorgias. He devoted himself particularly to the study of Greek and Dutch literature, publishing a number of literary studies. Besides these he published many devotional contributions in periodicals, some sermons, and a historical paper in the Doopsgezinde Bijdragenof 1867. For many years he was a trustee of the Teyler Theological Association at Haarlem. C. Sepp wrote his obituary.

Another son of (1) Sybren Sybrandi was (3) Jacob Sybrandi, born 1818, at Haarlem, died 26 December 1895, at Kampen, who after his training at Amsterdam was a Mennonite pastor of Beemster 1844-51 and Kampen 1851-95.
