Fischer, Volkmar (d. 1535?)
Volkmar Fischer, an Anabaptist peasant of Rohrborn, a village in the district of Erfurt, Hesse, Germany, baptized by Hans Römer, apparently took part in an attack on Erfurt, escaped all persecution, arrived at Basel, where he stayed in the home of Michael Schürer, a tailor from Freiburg. Here he renounced all ideas of revolution and joined the quiet Anabaptists. He left for Bohemia six weeks later, and was imprisoned in Prague for a while. For about a year he was a distiller of whiskey at Kaaden on the Eger, and then worked as a day laborer in various villages in the Erz Mountains. On 1 November 1534 he was arrested by the council of Erfurt and probably executed the following March.
