Christian Meyer, a German archivist, son of a forester, began his career in the national archives in Munich and in 1871 was appointed city archivist for Augsburg, Germany. He published numerous works on the history of Bavaria, especially of Augsburg, Prussia, and the Hohenzollerns. Among his early historical works was a study, Anfänge des Wiedertäufertums in Augsburg, published in the periodical he edited, the Zeitschrift des Historischen Vereins für Schwaben und Neuburg I (1874) 207-253, in which he gave information on the Anabaptist leaders in Augsburg (Hans Denck, Hans Hut, Jakob Gross, and Siegmund Salminger) and published 22 documents from the city archives of 1526-1527. The publication of archives on the Anabaptist congregation in Augsburg was continued by Friedrich Roth in the same periodical, Vols. XXVII and XXVIII. Another of Meyer's noteworthy contributions to the study of Anabaptist history from a chronicle of Augsburg in the Bavarian State Library was published under the title, "Zur Geschichte der Wiedertäufer in Oberschwaben."
