The Charleswood Mennonite Church congregation began in May 1963 under the sponsorship of Bethel Mennonite congregation. There were 31 charter members at the time of the formal organization on 15 September 1963. Initially the group met in the Chapman School in the Charleswood area of Winnipeg; it then bought land on the corner of Haney and Eldridge.

The congregation has been involved in sponsoring Crossroads, an inner-city project, Sargent MCC thrift shop, and Bethel Place. A Korean ministry began in 1996 with the arrival of several families from Korea. In the fall of 1997, the Korean students studying at Canadian Mennonite Bible College decided to worship together at the Charleswood Church. They studied the Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective, and in October 1997, Hun Lee, who had been a Presbyterian minister in Korea, was baptized and several others were received into membership. It became apparent in 1998 that there wasa need for Korean language services. In September 1999 Hun Lee was licensed for ministry; he was ordained as a Mennonite minister on 3 December 2000.
