Vermeer family name
Vermeer (Vermeeren, Vemeren, Van der Meer), a common Dutch family name. Adriaen Vermeer of Leiden was an Anabaptist martyr, executed at Haarlem, Holland, in 1537. Joos Vermeeren (Joachim de Suickerbacker) of Antwerp, Belgium, was a Mennonite elder in the 1560's. Later there were some Mennonite Vermeers in the Rotterdam congregation and Vermeerens at Haarlem until ca. 1900.
