Grosheide, Greta (1880-1959)
Greta Grosheide (20 May 1880-27 May 1959) was the descendent of a well known Reformed Church family. Because university study by women was not encouraged in her family she pursued teacher's training in Amsterdam. Nevertheless, while pursuing her teaching career in Leiden and Amsterdam she continued her preparation for university studies, particularly in history and geography, which she was eventually able to undertake under H. Brugmans at the University of Amsterdam. She edited a collection of documents from court proceedings related to Anabaptists in Amsterdam (Verhooren en Vonnissen der Wederdoopers, betrokken bij de aanslagen op Amsterdam in 1534 and 1535, in Bijdragen en Mededeelingen van het Historisch Genootschap [1920], 1-197). This became the basis for her Amsterdam dissertation Bijdrage tot de geschiedenis der Anabaptisten in Amsterdam (published at Hilversum in 1938). Her many responsibilities as teacher prevented further publications in this area, with the exception of one article ("Altgen de Waal en Aeltgen Egberts," in Nederlands Archief voor Kerkgeschiedenis 34 [1943], 138-144. In her later years she published several articles on Dutch Reformed missions in Indonesia.
