Isaac van Dühren, a Mennonite dyer and weaver in Danzig, served as a preacher from 1775 until his death in 1800. In 1782 he wrote a book, Geschichte der Märtyrer oder kurze historische Nachricht von den Verfolgungen der Mennonisten (Königsberg, 1787). The book has three chapters: (a) Verfolgung der Mennonisten von den Catholiken; (b) id. von den Lutheranern; (c) id. von den Reformirten, which is followed by a supplement Von der Kindertaufe. The first part (a) is taken from Martyrs' Mirror, and gives information on 102 Dutch martyrs; the sources of (b) and (c) are J. Mathesius 5e Predigt vom Leben Lutheri; Gottfried Arnold, Unparteiische Kirchen- und Ketzerhistorie; Gerber, Historie der Wiedergebohrenen; Crespin’s martyrbook, and others. The book by van Dühren, which contains 169 pages, was printed without the name of the author, but a copy belonging to the [[Amsterdam Mennonite Library (Bibliotheek en Archief van de Vereenigde Doopsgezinde Gemeente te Amsterdam)|Amsterdam Mennonite Library]] contains a note that Isaac van Dühren, minister of the congregation of the Frisian Mennonites at Neugarten near Danzig, is the author. The book was reprinted in 1863 at Stuttgart and at Winnipeg in 1939. Concerning his development and inner life see his correspondence with Elder Cornelius Regier in Heubuden (reprinted in Mennonitisches Blätter, 1885, 3 and 14ff.).
