Medendorp, a Mennonite family, which seems to have stemmed from De Meeden , a village in the Dutch province of Groningen, where Alle Pieters (1595-1641), one of its ancestors, was a Mennonite preacher. In the 17th and 18th centuries the Medendorps belonged to the Old Flemish branch. They were found particularly in the city of Groningen, where Alle Pieters Medendorp (1705-56) became a preacher of the Old Flemish congregation, serving from 1733 until his death. He was an active trustee of the Dutch Mennonite Committee for Foreign Needs, and as secretary of the Groningen Old Flemish Conference he corresponded with Prussian Mennonites. His son Christoffer Medendorp (1733-1818), a merchant, moved from Groningen to Leer, East Friesland, Germany.

There is also a Reformed branch of the Medendorp family, to which belonged Lambert Medendorp, born at Appingedam, Dutch province of Groningen, died 1690, Reformed minister (1678-90) at Larrelt, Leer, and Emden in East Friesland.
