Joost Meerssenier was an Anabaptist martyr executed in Ghent in Flanders in 1569 with two brethren and a sister. "But in all this they courageously persevered, and could in no wise be induced to apostatize, so that they finally had to lay down their lives for the name of Christ" The exact date and manner of execution are unknown. Verheyden, who studied the documents at Ghent, did not find this martyr. Joost's name is No. 37 in the song "Als men schreef duyst vijfhondert jaer, Ende twee en tsestich mede," found in the appendix of the Lietboecxken van den Offer des Heeren.
