Gregor Maler, an Anabaptist preacher of Chur, Switzerland, stopped for a time in Augsburg, Germany, to baptize several persons who wished to join the brotherhood. He took part in the Martyrs' Synod of 20 August 1527, and was one of the evangelists sent out by that body. According to a statement made by Jakob Gross, who was imprisoned at Augsburg soon after the synod, Maler was assigned with Hans Denck, Ulrich Trechsel (according to the statement of Hans Hut, who was also seized, Trechsel was sent to Worms), and Hans Beck to the Cantons of Basel and Zürich; the council of Augsburg passed this information on to the council of Strasbourg with the request that they keep close watch on these men, and report back. While Denck and Beck went first to Ulm, and from there had to move on soon, Gregor remained a while longer in the vicinity of Augsburg. On 15 October 1527 he visited Eitelhans Langenmantel, who had been banished from Augsburg, at Goppingen.

He also visited Strasbourg (exact date unknown) and is also said to have been in Basel. In April 1528 he was arrested at Feldkirch in Vorarlberg, Austria. Because it could not be proved that he had been re-baptized (he refused to answer this question) he was released. There is no further trace of him.
