Vincent van der Hoeve, sheriff of the city of Amersfoort, Dutch province of Utrecht, was publicly beheaded at Utrecht (city) on 25 August 1569 because he had favored the Mennonites at Amersfoort, tolerating them and permitting them to hold meetings. This protector of the Mennonites was apparently not a member of the church.
