Verbrugge, a former Dutch Mennonite family, descended from Mennonite refugees from Flanders, Belgium, was found in the 17th and 18th centuries at Rotterdam, Haarlem, Amsterdam, and Leiden. Some of its members served as deacons. The Amsterdam branch of this family operated an important trade house. Cornelis Verbrugge, d. 1762 at Leiden, was a physician at Rotterdam from 1736 and for many years a treasurer of the Mennonite congregation.
