Arent van Heuven, a silk merchant at Utrecht, in the Netherlands, was a preacher in 1646-1674 of the Utrecht Mennonite congregation. Being an adherent of the moderate views of Galenus Abrahamsz, van Heuven and his co-preachers Goris van Aldendorp, Johan Andries (van Aken), and Willem van Maurik in 1658 came into conflict with Robert van Hoogveldt, also a preacher of the congregation, who was conservative and an antagonist of Galenus. These three preachers published Een belydenisse aengaende de voornaemste Leer-stucken des Christelycken Godtsdienst (Utrecht, 1659) and Wijdt-loopiger Verhael van de bekjaeglijcke Onlusten, onder de Vlaemsche Doopsgezinden binnen Utrecht in den jaere 1661 (against Robert van Hoogveldt) (Utrecht, 1662). On a charge of Socinianism van Heuven and the three other preachers were suspended from their office by the city government of Utrecht on 12 August 1661. They were allowed to preach again on 4 August 1664 after they had declared that they agreed with the published confession of the Mennonites. In the meantime a part of the congregation had begun to meet separately and this division lasted until 1675. A new conflict with the Reformed and the city government arose in 1666. Now van Maurik and van Heuven refused to sign a confession drawn up by the Reformed ministers, but finally the city government was content with a statement made by van Maurik, van Heuven, and Aldendorp. Particulars about van Heuven were not available. His years of birth and death are unknown.
