Gelder, Hendrik Arend van (1825-1899)

Hendrik Arend van Gelder, a Dutch Mennonite minister, son of Hendrik van Gelder and Aagje Mats, b. 1825 at Wormerveer, d. 1899 at Haarlem, studied at the Amsterdam Mennonite Seminary and then served the congregations of Mensingeweer 1851-1853, Medemblik 1853-1855, Drachten-Ureterp 1855-1858, Bolsward 1858-1863, and Haarlem 1863-1884. In 1853 he married Rinske Feikema of Franeker. He was a learned man, whose learning was honored by an appointment to membership on the board of the Teylers Theologisch Genootschap. He also wrote a history of the Mennonite congregation of Haarlem, which, however, was never published.
