The Central Mennonite Publication Board, the official publication agency of the Central Conference of Mennonites, was established by action of the conference in 1917. For some years previously the work of publication had been sponsored by a publication committee. The board consisted of five members, four generally laymen, one being elected annually by the conference for a four-year term, and the editor and business manager as a fifth member.

Principal items of publication sponsored by the board were The Christian Evangel and Central Conference Yearbook. The board also operated a business office for the purchasing of Sunday-school materials, books, Bibles, and miscellaneous supplies desired by churches or their auxiliary organizations. The editorial and business office was located at 809 North Evans St., Bloomington, Illinois.
