Felistis Jans (official name Felistis Resincx), a Dutch Anabaptist martyr, originally from Vreeden in the Münsterland, Germany, but living for 11 years in Amsterdam, where she was arrested in 1552 with many others. Obviously she was an elderly woman. During the trial she admitted that she had lodged some Anabaptists in her house and attended Anabaptist meetings, where she had heard Gillis van Aken preach. She repudiated the Roman Catholic doctrine of the Mass, and related that she had learned to read two or three years ago, "in order to know the truth." She had also taught other persons. Remaining steadfast even in cruel torture on 2 January 1553, she was sentenced to death with confiscation of her goods. On 16 January 1553 she was burned at the stake at Amsterdam.
