Cate, Egbertus Marius ten (1868-1926)
Egbertus Marius ten Cate, born 6 December 1868, died 21 December 1926, was a Dutch Mennonite minister. After having finished his theological studies at the Amsterdam University and the Mennonite Seminary, he became a ministerial candidate in 1893. He served the congregations of Noordhorn 1894-1896, Monnikendam 1896-1904, and Apeldoorn 1904-1924. On 24 September 1924 he collapsed in the pulpit. As the pastor of Monnikendam and later of Apeldoorn, he also took care (from 1903) of a group of Mennonites at Amersfoort. When this group became an independent congregation (1919) ten Cate served also this congregation until he retired. Ten Cate was much interested in Mennonite history and wrote many articles in the Dutch weekly, De Zondagsbode and Dutch non-Mennonite periodicals. He contributed important articles to the Doopsgezinde Bijdragen (issues of 1899, 1903, 1904, 1906, 1911, 1918). Ten Cate also revised and edited in 1912 the third edition of Antje Brons Ursprung, Entwicklung und Schicksale der altevangelischen Taufgesinnten oder Mennoniten.
