Geurts, Marten (d. before 1687)
Marten Geurts was an elder of the Flemish Mennonites in Holland in the middle of the 17th century. He died shortly before 1687. He lived at Veenendaal (also called Rijnsche Veen), and was an opponent of the Collegiant innovations. In the conflict of the conservative Mennonites at Utrecht , and the Galenists in 1661 and the following years, the conservatives refused to accept him as an intermediary, because he was too moderate. He wrote the following: (1) Tractaet dienende tot beweeringe der sichtbare Gemeynte Gods tegen alle die hedensdaechsche Nieuwigheden en Dwalingen (Utrecht, 1662); (2) Aenmerckingen over den Handel en Mislagen van eenige Mennoniten binnen Utrecht (Utrecht, 1662).
