Karl Grüneisen, a German theologian, court chaplain and holder of other honorary offices. He is the author of a series of works on theology and art criticism. His "Abriss einer Geschichte der religiösen Gemeinschaften in Württemberg," in <em>Zeitschrift für historische Theologie</em> (1841) 63-142, was published in extract as <em>Geschichte der neuen Taufgesinnten in Württemberg</em> (1840) and translated into Dutch under the title, <em>Mennoniten en Doopsgezinden in Wurtemberg</em> (Amsterdam, 1848). Part I of the <em>Abriss</em> presents a noteworthy account of the rise of [[Anabaptism|Anabaptism]] in [[Württemberg (Germany)|Württemberg]] in the 16th century, and the struggle against it, and then also the rise of the Baptist brotherhood in 1838.
