Meyn is a Dutch Mennonite family found at [[Zaandam (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Zaandam,]][[North Holland (Netherlands)|North Holland]], where some members of this family were preachers: Cornelis Gerritsz Meyn, serving 1663-1681; Gerrit Pietersse Meyn, serving from 1693; Cornelis Gerritsz Meyn 1727-1775, and perhaps Gerrit Cornelisz Meyn, all of the [[Frisian Mennonites|Frisian]] congregation. A number of the Meyn family also were deacons. Some members of this family belonged to the [[Flemish Mennonites|Flemish]] congregation of Zaandam, and after 1687 to the United Flemish and Waterlander congregation of West-Zaandam (Nieuwe Huys); of these mention should be made of Meyndert Arendsze Meyn (died 4 March 1704), who in 1673 organized a support action among the Mennonites of the Zaan district in behalf of the Dutch army, then at war with England and France. This action, launched in gratitude for the exemption of the Dutch Mennonites from military service, brought in a sum of about 30,000 guilders besides a large quantity of clothing for the common cause. This Meyndert A. Meyn was a merchant; in 1695 he was appointed as one of the directors of the Dutch Whaling Company.
