Legemeer, a hamlet in the Dutch province of Friesland, not far from Joure, where Elder Jakob Theunis baptized 14 persons in 1603-1618. The minutes of the Frisian Societeit show that in 1700 there were 33 members here not in need of support. In 1726 Legemeer was still giving a small annual sum for foreign relief. About 1725, after the pulpit had been vacant for nearly half a century, partial union was made with the neighboring congregation of Sloten; about 1755 this union was dissolved, the preacher of Legemeer then also serving at Sloten. A merger of the two congregations was brought about in 1775, but in 1789 the few remaining members of the Sloten-Legemeer congregation joined the Balk congregation.
