Gerbrand Valter, b. 1740 at [[Amsterdam (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Amsterdam]] (?), d. 8 December 1818, at [[Purmerend (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Purmerend]], married to Maria Houttuyn, was a Dutch Mennonite preacher, serving at Langedijk-Koedijk 1771-?, [[Hoorn (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Hoorn]] until 1778, [[Edam (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Edam]] 1778-80, and Oostzaan-Zuid 1780-1809. Though he did not receive a theological training for the min­istry, he was a man of wide knowledge and trained other young men for the ministry. Among his pu­pils was Nicolaas Messchaert. Valter pub­lished <em>Vraagen over de Voornaamste Waarheden van den Christelyken Godsdienst</em> (Amsterdam, 1784). The well-known elder Cornelis Ris of Hoorn was his uncle.
