Jan van Bemelen, was an Anabaptist martyr of Maastricht, Dutch province of Limburg. When persecution arose there, Jan and his wife fled, but after­wards returned and were arrested. Jan was beheaded there in April 1538 on the Vrijthof square. His wife was released because she was not (re)bap­tized.
