Hoogsaet (Hooghsaet) was a Dutch Mennonite family of Amsterdam in the 17th century. Cornelis Claesz, at first a sailor and later a wood-dealer at Amsterdam, assumed the family name of his mother, who was a daughter of the Mennonite preacher Dirck Pietersz van Nierop. His son Jan Cornelisz Hoogsaet, born 1654 at Amsterdam, died there about December 1733, was a painter and though he is not much known, he was very popular during his lifetime and received important assignments, e.g., he worked in the Amsterdam town hall (now Royal Palace). Catharina Hoogsaet, another grandchild of Dirck Pietersz van Nierop (daughter of Jan Dircksz Hoogsaet, who was a maker of compasses), married to Hendrik Jacobsz Rooleeuw, preacher of the Amsterdam Waterlander congregation 1626 until his death in 1656, was painted by Rembrandt in 1657.

Jan Ysbrandtsz Hoogsaet, a well-known shipbuilder, who was baptized in the Waterland congregation of Amsterdam in 1743, was likely also a grandson of Dirck Pietersz van Nierop.
