Laurens Hendriks (Hendricksz), appointed deacon of the Amsterdam Mennonite congregation "bij 't Lam" in 1656, was a violent antagonist of Galenus Abrahamsz, playing an important role in the Lammerenkrijgh, the struggle between more progressive and more conservative views, Hendriks strictly holding to the conservative principles. When after a fruitless discussion between the two parties Galenus and his co-preacher presented to their opponents a copy of their XIX Artikelen (January 1657), Hendriks unfairly published this document with his additional refutation, Antwoorde bij forme van aanmerkingen . . . (Amsterdam, 1659). Galenus then published Wederleggingen van Laurens Hendriksz (Amsterdam, 1659). In 1660 and again in 1663 Hendriks tried to have Galenus suspended from his office. In 1664 Hendriks published Vrede-presentatie aan Galenus Abrahamsz en zyne Medestemmers. When in 1664 this congregation of Amsterdam divided into a Lamist and a Zonist congregation, Hendriks joined the Zonist branch, serving as a deacon until his death in 1667.
