Joseph Kartels, a German Catholic historian was for a time city archivist at [[Fulda (Hesse, Germany)|Fulda]]. From 1906-1915 he taught at the Realgymnasium at Ahrweiler; in 1920 he entered a Capuchin monastery, and in 1921 he became a priest in [[Mainz (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)|Mainz]]. He inaugurated the <em>Fuldaer Geschichtsblätter </em>in 1902 with an address, "Die Wiedertäuferbewegung im ehemaligen Hochstift Fulda" (pp. 3-20), which he delivered to the historical society of Fulda on the Anabaptist movement (1529-1587) in Grossenbach near Hünfeld, based on records in the [[Marburg (Hessen, Germany)|Marburg]] state archives.

Kasai was a district in the Belgian Congo (now Democratic Republic of Congo), which was the location of the Mennonite Brethren Kasai district mission field. The area covered by the mission in 1957 had approximately 35 villages with an estimated 12,000 population. The mission was generally referred to as the Bololo field.
