Overview
Anabaptist Financial began in 2006 as a nonprofit loan organization, assisting conservative Anabaptists in channeling material resources to entities with shared the values and faith expressions. Anabaptist Financial also offers financial counsel consistent with conservative Anabaptist beliefs and values. Anabaptist Financial is governed by an independent board of male directors deliberately drawn from various conservative Anabaptist groups. The board provides a mix of business experience, professional training, ministerial experience, and nonprofit administration. In addition, an advisory group of approximately 40 members provides counsel to the board. The Anabaptist Financial board and staff also administer a sister organization—Anabaptist Foundation and Stewardship Resources.
The investment and loan programs operate exclusively within conservative Anabaptist circles. Investors are primarily individuals and families. These funds held by Anabaptist Financial are invested only within conservative Anabaptist circles in the form of loans to individuals, families, businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Anabaptist Financial does not invest in secular holdings, such as bonds, mutual funds, or the stock market.
Anabaptist Financial provides loans in situations that commercial banks may be unwilling to fund. Commercial banks may not accept church mutual aid plans in lieu of insurance. Anabaptist Financial serves borrowers who have non-conforming properties, such as homes with no electricity. Anabaptist Financial is able to serve recently returned church service workers who may not have recent records of income or tax payments.
In the case of a loan default, Anabaptist Financial seeks resolution without foreclosure or legal proceedings.
The 2022 annual report indicates Anabaptist Financial held investments of more than $577 million from 6,338 investors. More than $575 million was loaned to 2,879 entities
Anabaptist Foundation
Anabaptist Foundation serves the conservative Anabaptist church community by providing charitable gift services and practical support for donors, churches, and nonprofit organizations. Anabaptist Foundation serves as a channel for anonymous donations to many church-related charities. It does not operate any of its own relief or service or service programs.
The 2022 annual report indicates that the Anabaptist Foundation channeled more than $25 million to 586 churches, nonprofit organizations and schools.
