The Mennonite Yearbook and Directory (Mennonite Church) was first published in 1905 by the Mennonite Board of Charitable Homes and Missions, at Scottdale, Pennsylvania. Issued as an annual publication, it contained articles, ministerial directories, statistical data, and names of institutional personnel. In 1905-1913 it also contained the Almanac. The 1906 issue was published by its founder, and the 1907-1908 issues were published by the Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities. The publication was not issued in 1909-1912, but appeared again in 1913 with the Mennonite Publishing House, Scottdale, as its publisher. During these four years (1909-1912) some information and statistical data appeared in the Family Almanac. Except for issues dated 1914-1915, 1986-1987, 1988-1989 and 1990-1991, the Mennonite Yearbook and Directory was published annually by the Mennonite Publishing House. It contained articles and biographical sketches of general church interest, church organizations and institutions including domestic and foreign missions, with names of their personnel. The Conference Directory for the Mennonite Church (MC) gave names and addresses of congregations by conference districts with the membership and ministry for each congregation. Conference directories are also given for the Conservative Mennonites, Old Order Amish Mennonites, Old Order (Wisler) Mennonites, and affiliated congregations (the latter two groups until the 1960s). The Ministerial Directory included lists of names and addresses of ordained men for Mennonite bodies throughout the world.

The issues of 1905-1907 inclusive were edited by a compiling committee of three. Those who served on this committee were Aaron Loucks 1905-1907, M. S. Steiner 1905-1907, J. S. Shoemaker 1905-1906, D. H. Bender 1907. No names appear in the 1908 issue. The 1913 issue was edited by J. A. Ressler, Daniel Kauffman, and H. F. Reist. Beginning with the 1914 issue the editors were J. A. Ressler 1914-1924, John L. Horst 1925-1942, Ellrose D. Zook 1943-1971, Levi Miller 1972-1974, and James E. Horsch 1975-1997. The 1956 issue contained 136 pages and had a circulation of 8,600. The size remained at 6 x 9 in., and except for typographical changes in format it was similar to the first issue. It became in a sense a world Mennonite directory, with lists of Mennonite ministers and total church membership for all Mennonite groups, and in later years lists of related Mennonite conferences and Mennonite World Conference statistical information.

After 1997 the Mennonite Yearbook and Directory merged with the CMC Directory (Conference of Mennonites in Canada Directory) and Handbook of Information (General Conference Mennonite Church) to form a joint Mennonite Directory.
