Hansken van den Broecke (vanden Brocke, vanden Brouck), an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake at Brugge, Belgium, on 15 October 1558, after being strangled. Van Braght's Martyrs' Mirror mentions that he had come to Brugge from Oostende to hear the preaching of the Gospel, and that he was arrested with some others and executed about 12 June 1558 remaining steadfast in his faith. Verheyden has published more exact and exhaustive data. He was a linen weaver by trade, had been baptized at Ghent in 1556, lived in Oostende for some time, and had moved from this town to Brugge in the spring of 1558 together with Jacob de Swarte who was burned at the stake at Brugge on 15 August 1558.
