Gerrit Jansz Veerom was the son of Jan Gerritse Veerom of Rotterdam, Netherlands, who was a preacher of the Flemish Mennonite congregation in Rotterdam from 1641 until his death in 1652. Gerrit was a preacher of the same Flemish Mennonite church in Rotterdam from 1653 to 1655, but in 1655, having more liberal convictions than his congregation, he joined the Rotterdam Waterlander congregation.
