Revision as of 02:15, 19 December 2014

Aerdt (Arent) Aerssens, a Dutch Anabaptist martyr of Utrecht, who in the Martyrs' Mirror is called Arent Passementwercker, was burned at the stake at Antwerp on 16 December 1558. The Martyrs' Mirror states that together with him five other martyrs were executed. This is not quite correct; according to the records compiled by Génard, on 16 December the following martyrs were burned: Aerdt Aerssens (Arent Passementwercker), Peeter Henricx (Pieterin de Vettewarier), Jan Collen (Hans van Borculo),and Geert Franssens (Geraert Passementwercker). Aerdt is also mentioned in the song, "Aenhoort God, hemelsche Vader" (Hear, O God, heavenly Father), No. 16 of the Lietboecxken van den Offer des Heeren.
