Noord- and Zuid-Scharwoude are two small villages a few miles north of Alkmaar in the Dutch province of North Holland. There was some Anabaptist activity here in 1534-35. Reinier Brunt, an attorney-general of the Court of Holland, adopted harsh measures against the Anabaptists at Scharwoude in the spring of 1535, demolishing the house of the widow of Jan Zyboetszoon, probably because Anabaptist meetings had been held in it. In 1541 a few Anabaptists of Zuid-Scharwoude escaped their persecutors by flight. There was later no congregation at Scharwoude; the Mennonites living here joined the congregation of neighboring Langendijk.
