Tieboel (Tiboel) (and Tieboel Siegenbeek, a branch of the Tieboel family), an old, originally non-Mennonite family, found as early as ca. 1580 at Emmerich, Germany, who moved to the Netherlands in the early 18th century. Most Tieboels formerly lived in Friesland. Jacobus Tieboel (1760-1830), a physician of Leeuwarden, was married to Christina Lugt (1761-1811), of Amsterdam; both were Mennonites. In the 18th century a Mennonite branch was found at Workum; here Daniel Tieboel was a town clerk; his daughter Geertruida Tieboel was married in 1799 to Matthijs Siegenbeek (1774-1854). Their son was Daniel Tieboel Siegenbeek (1806-66), a jurist at Leiden, married to Elisabeth van Heukelom (d. 1874). He served many years as a deacon of the Leiden Mennonite congregation and was a trustee of the Algemeene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit 1851-1857 and a curator of the Amsterdam Mennonite Seminary. The last years of his life he was mayor of Leiden.
