Ruardus Acronius was a Reformed divine. His date of birth is unknown, and he died 1611. He was first a priest, then a preacher in Franeker (1572), Alkmaar (1574), Bolsward (1579), Cornjum (1580) which released him to Leeuwarden (1583-1591), where he became involved in disputes with his more moderate colleague Balck. From 1599 until his death he was stationed in Schiedam. In his Frisian period Acronius violently opposed the Mennonites. His hindering their meeting in Cornjum resulted in a public disputation with the Mennonites in Leeuwarden, whose spokesman was Pieter van Ceulen. This disputation lasted through 155 sessions from 16 August to 17 November 1596. The proceedings were published in the Protocol Dat is, De gantsche handelinge des ghesprecx . . . (Franeker, 1597). One of his other works named by van der Aa in his Biographisch Woordenboek (I, 44-45) is Seer grondighe ende uit Godes Woordt wel ghefondeerde onderrichtinghe tegens de lasteringhe ende het geschrey der Wederdooperen—over het onderholt ende de middelen daer door de dienaren der warer ghemeynte Christi in haren Dienst—ondholden worden (Franeker,1599).
