The Bay Tree Mennonite Church in Bay Tree, Alberta began services in 1972 and formally organized in 1973. The first building was occupied in 1980. Willard L. Stutzman is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through division from McBride Mennonite Church over a personality conflict.
Bishop William D. Byler served in 2007 as Bishop, and continued serving in 2014, assisted by Minister Daniel J. Martin.
