Joseph Kartels (1872-1931), a German Catholic historian, for a time city archivist at Fulda. From 1906-1915 he taught at the Realgymnasium at Ahrweiler; in 1920 he entered a Capuchin monastery, and in 1921 he became a priest in Mainz.
