Jan Gerrit Appeldoorn was born 12 November 1861 at [[Harlingen (Friesland, Netherlands)|Harlingen]], and died 7 February 1945 at [[Bilthoven (Utrecht, Netherlands)|Bilthoven]]. He was educated at the [[Amsterdam, University of (Amsterdam, Netherlands)|University]] and the [[Amsterdam Mennonite Theological Seminary (Kweekschool)|Mennonite seminary at Amsterdam]], and became a ministerial candidate in 1888.
