Het Zandt ('tZandt), a village in the Dutch province of Groningen, where Anabaptists were found as early as 1534, in the fall of which year Obbe Philips preached here. In the course of 1534 it was visited by the Münsterite emissaries Jacob Cremer and Antonius Kistemaker, and in January 1535 a tumultuous meeting was held on the farm "De Arke" near 't Zandt, where Harm(en) Schoemaker (Schoenmaker) was the leader; about a thousand persons were present, over 300 of whom were baptized by Schoenmaker. But soon after this revolutionary Anabaptism a more peaceful Mennonitism arose here. Leenaert Bouwens baptized five persons at 't Zandt in 1551-1556 and later another three. Concerning the congregation there is not much information; it was small in membership and merged with the Zijldijk congregation before 1700.
