Rivageois, the inhabitants of Jemeppe and other villages of the Meuse River, south of Liége, Belgium, who in 1531 rebelled against the government of the Catholic bishop of Liége. This revolt is often said to have been a result of the rise of Anabaptism in this area, but there is no indication of Anabaptist origin. The rebellion of the Rivageois was merely an economic protest.
