Oosterwijk (Oosterwijck, Oosterwyk), Matthijs, d. 8 December 1729 at Leiden, Holland, was a preacher of the Leiden Waterlander Mennonite congregation (serving before 1682), and an elder from 1694. After this congregation had merged with the Flemish congregation he served the united congregation until his death. He was an untrained minister. In 1682 the Waterlander church board of Leiden decided that Oosterwijck should learn some Latin, which was thought necessary for his education, the costs of which were to be paid by the congregation. Matthijs Oosterwijk also preached and baptized at The Hague, e.g., in 1711. He represented the Leiden congregation (e.g., in 1710) in the Dutch Mennonite Committee of Foreign Needs. His son Francois Oosterwijk served the Leiden congregation as a deacon a number of times.
