Karl Wilhelm Bouterwek, b. 30 August 1809 at Tarnowitz in [[Silesia|Silesia]], d. 22 December 1868 in Elberfeld, a prominent educator, who spent the last years of his life in a thorough study of church history in Rhenish Prussia and [[Westphalia (Germany)|Westphalia]]. In 1863 he founded the <em>Bergische Geschichtsverein</em> and became its president. In 1864 Bouterwek also published <em>Zur Literatur und Geschichte der Wiedertäufer</em> (Bonn, 1864). This book contains the three pamphlets of the [[Münster Anabaptists|Münster Anabaptists]], (1) <em>Bekenntnisse von beiden Sakramenten; unterzeichnet am 22. Okt. 1533 von Bernhard Rothmann, Joh. Kloprijs, Hermann Sta prade, Henrik Roll, Dionysius Vynnen und Gotfriedus Straten</em>; (2) <em>Restitution</em>, which like the above is presented with the full text and provided in part with important historical annotations; (3) the booklet, <em>Von der Rache des babylonischen Greuels</em>.
