Thoni Martin was an Anabaptist martyr and a native of Gronenbach, Bavaria, Germany, which belonged to Kempten. Because of his faith he was led to his death on 23 October 1593, at the advanced age of 80 years. He was accompanied by a Catholic clergyman to the site of execution, which was set up before the court of the abbey. While the clergyman was urging the steadfast Martin to recant, the church prince angrily opened his window and shouted to the executioner to lay the head of the obstinate heretic at his feet.
