Reyner Pietersz Twisck (d. 1613 at Hoorn, Holland), a relative, probably an uncle of Pieter Jansz Twisck, was for many years a sailor and steersman. He invented a number of instruments, including a new kind of compass, which was patented in 1597 by the Dutch States General.
