Antonijn de Waele (also called Antheunis Behaghe), an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake at the Vrijdagsmarkt in Ghent on 9 November 1563, together with Christiaen van Wetteren. He was born at Bassey (in Artois, France) and was by trade first a shoemaker and later a lacemaker. His name is found in a song of the Liedtboecxken van den Offer des Heeren (No. 13), "Alsmen schreef duyst vijfhondert jaer ende twee en 't sestich mede."
